    UNIT 14: THE WORLD CUP
    C- LISTENING
    (1 period – 45 minutes)
    Objectives:
    By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
    - Listen and talk about the World Cup, especially about Pelé – a very legendary football player.
    - Learn more vocabulary, both meaning and pronunciation.
    - Improve their listening skill.
    Teaching Aids: Textbook, handouts, power point, videos, images, hot potatoes.
    Procedure:

    Teacher `s activities
    Students’ activities
    
    I. Warm up: (5 minutes)

    - use the movie maker to create 3 videos by images and sound of the 2002, 2006, 2010 World cup
    - Invite Ss to join a simple activity: Guessing the Year of some World Cups.
    - Play 3 short videos of 3 World Cup events.
    - Ask Ss the year when these World Cups were held.
    - Each student who gives the correct answer will receive a present.






    * Lead to the new lesson: Through these World Cups, there are some legendary football players discovered, and now we will start the new lesson to know more about them. Unit 14: The World Cup – Listening.

    

    - Work individually.
    - Watch carefully video, raise hand and give the correct answer.


    + Suggested answers:
    * The 2002 World Cup.(South Korea and Japan)
    * The 2006 World Cup.(Germany)
    * The 2010 World Cup.(South Africa)


    Write the topic of new lesson
    
    
    II. Pre-listening:

    1.Activity : (5 minutes)

    - use the images on internet about many football players (Diego Maradona, Zidane, Barthez , David Beckham, Pelé )and then make some changes to the pictures to know the name of them
    - Ask Ss to look at some original pictures showed on the screen.
    - Call some Ss to give the name of each football player and which team they played for.
    - Then show the new pictures changed on the screen. They have the name of football players




    - give students many questions :
    1.Who do you like best? Why?
    2.Among some famous football players , who is the greatest players of all time?
    - use “Violet” to create many questions.
    - After students to give the answers , go on asking :
    1.Do you know anything about Pele?
    2.Who is he ?
    3.When/ where was he born ?
    4.Was he an ambassador for the sport?
    5.How many scores did he get?
    - May provide some information about Pele by using “Jcloze of hot potatoes”,
    Pele is a Brazilian football player. He became known as The King of Football during his career. He used to be the Minister of Sport of Brazil
    - to know more about him,we will listen this lesson

    2.Vocabulary: (7 minutes)

    - Provide some vocabulary.
    - Give the words and their meanings in English to illustrate them.
    - use images from internet to make new images to teach new words
    - First, show the original photos. After students answer, show the new photos which have English words

    + Goal-scorer (n):(T will show the original photo)
    + To kick (v)
    T will show the photo and asks Ss “what is he doing ?”
    + Hero (n): T will show the photo and asks Ss
    “what is Ho Chi Minh called of the Vietnamese nation?”
    + To retire (n): A person stops doing his or her job.
    + Ambassador (n): teacher will show the photo and ask “who is he ?”
    + To promote (v): to do actively to support something.
    Give all new words on the screen
    Vocabulary :
    - Goal-scorer (n): người ghi bàn
    - Kicking (n): cú đá.
    - Hero(n) : anh hùng
    - retirement(n)->retire(v): nghỉ hưu- nghỉ hưu
    - Ambassador(n): đại sứ.
    - Promote(v): đẩy mạnh, khuyến khích.

    - ask students look at the projector, read carefully all vocabularies to remember.

    - Work individually.
